About Helping Aging Parents & Spouses
Hi, my name is Rosie Vanderhoeven. I am the owner of HAPS. This lovely woman next to me is my own sweet mom. Did I say sweet? Let me change that to strong and feisty. I have been blessed to have her in my life even though we are now separated by many miles. She is well cared for by my siblings and I am so grateful for all the work they do to keep her and my dad healthy, safe, and living independently in their home.
... "And if you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with."
Crosby, Stills & Nash
HAPS was born out of a need I saw and knew how to fill from my experience as a chaplain, mental health professional and pastor. I created HAPS because it seemed there was a vital piece of care sorely missing when seniors became ill or suffered a crisis. Even when families were present and the best medical care was available, decisions were often times disorganized, forced, and over-reactive. My heart went out to families in this situation. There is a better way - and I know the path.
I have been professionally assisting seniors in Bend for over six years. In 2011 I was trained to be a consultant by specialists in Positive Behavior Support by the Oregon State Department of Seniors & People with Disabilities. I was also personally supervised by the Director of the Senior's Program for Deschutes County Mental Health. I am invested in advocating for seniors and growing a more open, comprehensive, and holistic approach to the challenges they face. I currently serve as vice-chairman on the Gero Leadership Alliance (GLA), am a member of the Senior Care Network, and Clinician's Network.
Bend, Oregon is a great place to live and we are fortunate to have many great senior resources in our community. I look forward to introducing many kind and helpful faces to you along the journey!
